In 1917, overriding President Woodrow Wilson’s veto, Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1917, banning persons from an “Asiatic Barred Zone” from entering the country; the Act was amended in 1924 and 1952.

The 55th annual SWOSU Jazz Festival is coming up on Feb. 13–14 in Weatherford. A tradition spanning more than five decades, the festival is one of the region’s most anticipated music events, drawing high school musicians, jazz enthusiasts, and acclaimed performers.
