Clinton Fire Chief Brett Russell said the department ended up raising $9,924.41 last weekend during its annual two-day “Fill the Boot” campaign, which has been raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for many years.
Traffic around Clinton schools was the subject of another unscheduled discussion at this week’s City Council meeting, but this time the dialogue was a lot shorter and a lot different from two weeks earlier.
Clinton schools took some precautionary steps Thursday when a threat was reported to have been made on a social media site, but Clinton Supt. Kevin Hime said the threat did not prove credible and his schools never called a formal lock-down.
In 1522, Ferdinand Magellan’s ship, Victoria, docked in Sanlucar, Spain, completing the first global circumnavigation. Magellan himself had died en route.
In 1901, President William McKinley was shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. He died eight days later.

Graveside services will be held for Houston Butcher, 84, of Houston and formerly of Putnam, at 10 a.m. today at Mound Cemetery in Taloga. He died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, in Katy, Texas. Services will be held under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
