Oklahoma ranks seventh in the nation for quality civics and U.S. history academic standards on June 23, according to a report released today from the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. Oklahoma was awarded a B+ in both areas with accolades for deep content, clear organization and a commitment to telling the story of Native Americans. Only five states and the District of Columbia scored higher in the study.
The U.S. Census Bureau is set to release in-depth demographic statistics from the 2020 Census by August 16, that will be used to redraw legislative voting districts.

A Cordell man and his brother from Duncan died around 7:30 a.m. Saturday in a boating accident on Lake Texoma.
The filing period for Clinton City Council seats representing Wards 1 and 3 is now open. Candidates may file at the Custer County Election Board office, 633 N. Sixth St. in Clinton, through 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Two fights occurred July 10 during Foss State Park’s annual Christmas in July event, according to the Custer County Sheriff’s report. One of them reportedly involved a large group of people.
Nominations are currently being sought for Clinton Citizen of the Year and AMBUCS Woman of the Year. Winners will be announced at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet to be held Friday, Aug. 13, at the Frisco Center.
