(AP) – Twenty-five men have died by court-ordered execution so far this year in the U.S., and four other people are scheduled to be put to death in three states during the remainder of 2025.

Joe Cloninger talks about that fateful night

“Shore patrol is screaming at me on the radio, ‘Man overboard! The boat has been hit! Man overboard!’ There were 149 sailors and marines on this mike boat. It was struck by a freighter that was coming in,” longtime Clintonite and former Navy Officer Joe Cloninger remembered about that fateful Jan. 17, 1977, night in Barcelona, Spain.

Rural Arapaho resident Jim R. Barton enlisted in the volunteer regular Army in 1963 and served until 1966. He also volunteered for airborne training when he joined up.
