POTEAU – On the road, not favored and doubted by many, the No. 9 Clinton football team went to the Class 4A, defending state champ, No. 3 Poteau Pirates and stunned everybody, except themselves and the town that has followed them, in a 17-10, quarterfinals win Friday night.

The No. 9 Clinton football team (7-3 overall) advances to its third semifinal appearance in five years with an upset, road win against No. 3, 4A defending champ Poteau (9-3).

Jordan Brown's 22-yard field goal is good. CHS leads it 10-0. After a wacky few plays, Poteau attempts and makes a 33-yard field goal. CHS still leads it 10-3.

CHS gets defending champs in quarters

Playoff runs will eventually lead to a title-contending foe, and the Clinton football team gets that major test in just its second, actual postseason game, traveling to face the 4A defending state champion Poteau Pirates at 7 p.m. Friday, in the quarterfinals.
