POTEAU – On the road, not favored and doubted by many, the No. 9 Clinton football team went to the Class 4A, defending state champ, No. 3 Poteau Pirates and stunned everybody, except themselves and the town that has followed them, in a 17-10, quarterfinals win Friday night.
The Clinton basketball program looks to continue its recent rise after what’s been a solid, competitive last three years.

Playoff runs will eventually lead to a title-contending foe, and the Clinton football team gets that major test in just its second, actual postseason game, traveling to face the 4A defending state champion Poteau Pirates at 7 p.m. Friday, in the quarterfinals.
The second the 2019 season came to a close, there were plenty of positional question marks that needed answers but one spot that returned stable depth for the 2020 season, was running back.
