Edward William Johnson Jr. was born in LaGrange, Indiana on January 9, 1938 and met our Lord October 24, 2025.
He spent his formative years in Clinton, Oklahoma before joining the United States Army.
His time in the military brought him to Columbia, South Carolina. Ed spent four years in service to his country before finding lifetime employment in the Commercial Insurance industry for nearly 40 years.
During his time in Columbia, he attended the University of South Carolina, met and married the love of his life, Frieda (Addy) Johnson and spent the rest of his days in South Carolina. Ed and Frieda married on April 15, 1961 and spent the next nearly 65 years loving each other through thick and thin. Ed and Frieda have one son, Barry Edward Johnson. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Irmo, South Carolina and gave much to the congregation. He enjoyed cooking for and participating in church events.
Ed was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and uncle to his nieces and nephews.
He was also an avid golfer, outdoorsman and loved to travel. He was a man who enjoyed life, no matter what he was doing.
Ed was predeceased by his mother Leta Johnson, his father Edward Johnson Sr., his sister Mary-Alice McMurray and brother-in-law Richard Addy.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Frieda (Addy) Johnson, his son Barry, daughterin law Allison (Mooney) Johnson, grandsons Drew Nichols Johnson and Colin Reese Johnson; sistersin- law Lynda Addy and Kaye Addy; nephews Rick Addy and Mike Sawatsky (Connie) and great-nieces Kaci Sawatsky and Kori Dillow.
There was a Celebration of Life at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Irmo, SC on Monday, October 27 and a Graveside Dedication immediately followed.
The family politely requests no flowers and any memorials please be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
