Dennis Wayne Shaffer, age 77, passed away on February 21, 2025. He was born in Clinton, OK, on September 26, 1947, to Lloyd and Maxine (Hale) Shaffer. He graduated from Clinton High School and went on to attend Oklahoma State University. While at OSU, he was drafted into the Army and went to Vietnam.
Following Vietnam, he was transferred back to Ft. Sill in Lawton. While there, he met the love of his life, Donna Jean Dennis. On February 14, 1970, they were married. The family moved around to several towns in Oklahoma before settling in Oklahoma City, where Dennis joined the OKC Fire Department at Will Rogers Airport. During these years, he also worked as a professional painter. In the early 80s, the family moved to Mustang.
Dennis loved to grow his own vegetables, was always smoking meat, and took great pride in his lawn. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly Thunder basketball, OU Sooner football, and the Dallas Cowboys.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Donna; his parents; and sister Beverly Shaffer.
He is survived by his daughters, Traci Guire and husband Brian and Shelbie Tillinghast and husband Ricky; grandchildren Mason Griffith and Trenton Tillinghast; brother Terry Shaffer and wife Kathy; and many nieces and nephews.
Public visitation was yesterday at McNeil’s Funeral Service.
Funeral services are today at 2pm at McNeil’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Mustang Cemetery.
Pre-Funeral Luncheon for all friends and family will be from 12:00pm 1:30pm @ the Mustang Town Center banquet hall located @ 1201 N. Mustang Road.
