(AP) — Carpets of yellow, orange and gold flowers are beginning to cover Southern California's vast deserts, the Bay Area's dramatic bluffs and even near Los Angeles International Airport.
Scientists don't agree on any one definition. Across California and Arizona, there are stretches of desert that can quickly transform into dense fields of wildflowers, since seeds lie dormant in the soil and then germinate and blossom at around the same time.
According to Fraga, no, because there isn't a huge diversity in the flowers that have blossomed in places like California's Death Valley.

Custer County commissioners gathered for a concise, yet productive meeting Monday morning at the Custer County Courthouse.
A fatal collision between a semi and pedestrian occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. Sunday near the Interstate 40, 6.5 mile marker eastbound, half a mile west of Erick in Beckham County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
An inmate housed at the Custer County Detention Center is allegedly facing charges of battery or assault and battery on a law enforcement officer following a recent altercation within the facility, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Custer County Dept. Jail Lt. Lacey Schmidt. Cameron Ooley, 25, of Clinton, is allegedly facing the above charges.
