Johnston encourages women to ‘listen to their bodies’

Clinton resident Lana Johnston was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) which meant the cancer hadn’t spread beyond the milk ducts into surrounding tissue. She was 55 years old when diagnosed.

Millions of women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. According to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, more than 2.3 million women across the globe were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020.

Physcians consider factors before cancer treatment

Treatment for breast cancer is often successful. For example, data from the American Society of Clinical Oncology indicates that the fiveyear survival rate for women diagnosed with non-metastatic invasive breast cancer is 90 percent, while the average 10-year survival rate for such cancers is 84 percent.
