Fat pad atrophy can cause stress on feet

Dear Doctors: I have walked barefoot all my life without any problems. But now, the ball of my right foot has started to hurt when I do. I’m 55, a woman and a runner. I read that the fat pads on your feet get thinner with age. Could that be what’s happening here? Can it be fixed?

Current and future American women deserve better

We cannot live without mothers. That seems like it should be an obvious point. But we have examples in recent culture and politics that suggest otherwise. The vice president of the United States recently visited an abortion clinic. As much as the issue of abortion has been important to the Democratic Party, no president or vice president had previously made such a visit. At his own abortion-rights rally, our Catholic president made the sign of the cross, as if to call upon God's blessings for more abortions.

Student misses abroad whirlwind romance

DEAR HARRIETTE: I recently returned to the United States after studying abroad, and I have a whirlwind of emotions following my departure from the city that became my temporary home. I am sad to leave the friends I made from all over the world, and I’m also leaving behind a guy I connected with.

Wife looks to reconnect with husband

DEAR HARRIETTE: I feel like I’m drowning in my empty home. My kids have all grown up and moved out, leaving a quiet house behind. My husband seems to be married to his work and spends more time at the office than at home. With everyone gone, all I have left is our puppy. I adore our furry friend, but obviously, he doesn’t speak the same language as me.

DO JUST ONE THING

• You might be in a mood to declutter at home, and getting rid of old DVDs and Bluray discs could be at the top of your list. But the editors at Popular Science want you to think twice before gutting your collection. Streaming services don’t always hold on to their offerings indefinitely; series and movies come and go from the major platforms all the time. Having a physical copy of your favorite show ensures you can always access it. Plus, if your internet connection goes out, you’re still able to watch. Don’t forget: DVDs can be shared with others, and over time can be much cheaper than subscribing to a streamer.
