DO JUST ONE THING

Have you ever used a toilet in a public restroom and noticed it's leaking water? Over time, even a small leak can waste thousands of gallons of water as it goes unrepaired. While the problem might be something we could quickly fix in our own home, most of us probably won't or shouldn't fuss with public plumbing. Instead, let an employee know that the toilet is leaking water and encourage them to turn off the main water valve behind the toilet until the source of the leak can be found and repaired. That one simple act can save so much water for something that maybe no one even knew was broken.

Puritanism and power is prevalent

Something tells me I've seen this movie before. Back in my own elementary school days, we read about Dick and Jane. Even at that tender age, it was clear to me that they were Protestants and Republicans, although I had only the foggiest idea what those things were.

Teen feels pressure during parents’ divorce

DEAR HARRIETTE: I know you usually talk to adults, but I need help. My parents are in the middle of getting a divorce, and it's been tough on the whole family, but it's for the best because their relationship hasn't been working for many years. I am 13 years old, and they told me that I need to pick who I want to live with for the majority of the year. They think it's best that I stay in one spot for school, and it can get exhausting to have to switch houses every week.

New diet research focuses on methylation

Dear Doctors: I keep seeing news stories about a diet that supposedly reverses aging. It involves something called 'methylation.' Is this real, or is it just someone's new theory? It seems like instead of doing what we know works, like eating right and keeping fit, we keep hoping to find a magic formula.

Threat of the third party

WARREN, N.H. — Not that they share a mutual dislike, nor that they consider each other a threat to the nation or to democracy, nor even that they hold a decadeslong grudge, but Joe Lieberman and Dick Gephardt are at it again. And the fact that two old Democratic warhorses, both in their 80s, have jumped into the political fray in recent days stands as yet another example of how the 77-year-old Donald Trump has roiled American politics.

Homeowner consumed by possibility of damage

DEAR HARRIETTE: I am a 24-year-old man, and I bought a trailer home about a year ago. I like that I am a homeowner, but the anxiety that comes with being one is consuming me every day. I work in construction, and I go home every day on my lunch break to ensure that nothing is wrong with it. I wake up with my heart racing, scared that something will go wrong with the electricity or plumbing — or that I might even get robbed.

Snoring roommate wants to live together again

DEAR HARRIETTE: How do I go about telling my roommate that I no longer want to room with her because she snores too loudly? Our apartment lease is almost up, and we need to decide if we want to live together again and renew it. She told me she definitely wants to room together again because I was such a great roommate. She was, too. She does a really good job at cleaning up after herself and respecting my boundaries.

Lowering BP crucial, preventing aortic dissection

Dear Doctors: Our mom had an aortic dissection last fall, and she almost died. It happened all of a sudden, and she was in good health. That makes her worry that it might happen again. Can you please talk about aortic dissection?
